PROUDLY ANNOUNCES

9TH ANNUAL EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AWARD COMPETITION

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) ranks among OMEP’s highest priorities. Since 2010 World OMEP has sponsored a travel award competition for outstanding ESD projects by OMEP members.

COMPETITION GUIDELINES FOR THE 2018 ESD AWARD

1. Competition proposals must be received via email by March 1, 2018. Send to Dr. Ingrid Pramling Samuelsson at ingrid.pramling@ped.gu.se and Glynne Mackey at glynne.mackey@canterbury.ac.nz.

2. Proposals may be for (a) work directly with children between birth and age 8, with preference for children younger than 6 years of age; and/or (b) work in pre-service or in-service teacher education focusing on education for sustainable development.

3. Proposals must be for projects that (a) have been implemented at the time of submission and (b) will have produced substantial results or be fully completed by June 2018. Proposals must include information on project monitoring and outcomes.

4. Project activities and outcomes must relate specifically to one or more aspects of SDG goal 4.7:

By 2030 ensure that all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development including through education for sustainable development… and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.

5. Project activities and outcomes must also relate specifically to one or more components of sustainability: (a) healthy environments; (b) viable economies; and/or (c) equitable, just, and peaceful societies.

6. Proposals must be submitted in English and include all information requested on the accompanying Call for Proposals form.

7. OMEP’s Education for ESD Committee will review all proposals.

8. Between 1 and 5 projects will be selected for an award, with geographic representation as one selection criterion.

9. Winner(s) will be notified by May 1, 2018.

TRAVEL AWARDS

Winners will receive funding to assist with travel to Prague to participate in OMEP’s 70th World Assembly and Conference to be held June 25 – 29.

RECOGNITION OF AWARD WINNERS

Award winners will receive a certificate during a plenary session at the 2018 World Conference. Award winners will also be expected to present their work at a parallel session during the conference. Winning projects will be described on the World OMEP website.

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

for

OMEP’S 9TH ANNUAL EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AWARD

All proposals must be submitted in English and include the following:

1. A cover page with

Title of the project.

Name, institutional affiliation, and contact information for the project leader, plus the name of the project leader’s OMEP National Committee.

Names and institutional affiliations of others participating in the project, plus the names of the OMEP national committee to which each project participant belongs.

Signature of project leader’s OMEP National Committee President.

2. Target audience for the project, including number of participants and ages of participants, if children.

3. Abstract: No more than 250 words describing project goals, participants, activities, and outcomes. Relevance to one or more components SDG 4.7 and sustainability must be articulated.

4. Description of the project (maximum 4 pages, double spaced), including completed and anticipated activities, as well as known or anticipated outcomes.

The project must have already been implemented and must be completed or must have produced substantial results by June 2018.

Proposals must include information on how projects will be monitored and how outcomes will be assessed.

The project may involve hands-on work with young children, ESD materials for young children, or training materials or activities for early childhood teacher education.

5. If the project involves research with children, the proposal must include evidence that the work meets national standards and approval requirements for the protection of human subjects and the special protection of child participants.

Submission Deadline: March 1, 2018
